New Post: Can not find WowPath

During instal I got a pop up saying that it could not find the wow path, I wasnt too concerned as I assumed I could point to it at a later time. However from all the documentation I am finding the issue isn't resovable. When I go into a fresh project, and go to the project properties (as the tutorial describes) I only have 2 tabs. "AddOn Info" and "Files" there is no third "General" tab and I can't seem to find any way to set the path, in turn leaving me unable to build the project.

As a note, I did infact have world of warcraft installed on the host machine at the time of the AddOn studio install. however the game is in my "Public" folder and AddOn Studio is in "Program Files (x86)"

If someone has the answer it would be greatly appreciated.

Strangely, I just successfully installed AddOn Studio on my VM. The OS was 32-bit (as opposed to 64-bit), WoW was not installed, VS 2008 was not installed, and no updates from Windows Update. It was a fresh installation of Windows 7 Ultimate. I cannot think of anything else that would conflict with the installer on my 64-bit OS.

I am also having a problem installing AddOn Studio. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate (6.1.7600) and I have .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1. I receive this error when the installer runs "WowAddonStudio.exe /setup": http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/893/addonstudioerror.png (Microsoft Visual Studio Shell Isolated Edition - Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall AddOn Studio for World of Warcraft.)

I downloaded the 2.0 source code from, http://addonstudio.codeplex.com/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=22870. I can compile the code, but when I run the WowAddonStudio.exe, i got error message "Cannot find one or more components, Please reinstall the application."

Then I tried to install it, but the installer is not created because a file "wowbench.wxs" is missing in the WowAddonStudio.Setup project.

Any idea about the errors?

I am compiling using VS2008, 2008 SDK and 2008 shell (isolated), and also have wix installed. OS is XP with SP2.

Hmm, not sure what causes the designer to not show when you click a frame XML file. From within there, you should be able to click F4 to see the properties view and see a list of controls and the control properties. From there change the control name, save and you should be set

When I imported a GMH addon i wanted to change some of the buttons to read new text and add different itemsets. i edited the LUA no problem and got the text to change and the .additems to change. but i did all this with notepad. When i import this addon into Studio i have a problem seeing the deisgn side of it? Not sure if this can do what im asking but i want to pull in and existing addon and move some button delete some button and change there names visually not in code. My head hurts!

So thats how you hide frame1 im very new to addons and i wanted to have different frames. I want to have a button close the first frame and open the next so i can separate menus by class. Im trying to write a GM helper for our custom gear. Would it look like this?

Yes, you need to install WiX (WIndows Installer XML) that is required for the project that builds the installer. You can install it from here: http://wix.sf.net

Let me know if you still have problems after downloading and installing WiX.

When I open WowAddonStudio.xln in visual studio, I receive an error that "'c:\...\trunk\src\WowaddonSTduio.Setup\WowAddonStudio.Setup.wixproj' cannot be opened because its project type (.wixproj) is not supported by this version of the application.".

If I dismiss that warning, I receive another warning "Unable to read the project file 'WowAddonStudio.Setup.cUstomActions.csproj'. c:\...trunk\src\WowAddonStduio.SEtup.cUstomActions\WowAddonSTudio.Setup.CustomaCtions.csproj(81,11): The imported project 'c:\program files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WiX\v2.0\Wix.CA.targets' was not found. Confirm that the path in the <Import> declartion is correct, and that the file exists on disk'.

It would seem that I need to install WIX, as there is nothing on my machien at "c:\program files\MSBuild\Microsoft\WiX".

Last, thinking maybe I can ignore these problems, when I try to build the Shell\WowAddonStudio project, I receive the warning "Unable to copy file "..\References\AnkhSvnPackage\SharpPlink-Win32.svnExe" to ...". There was a References\AnkhSvnPackage directory downloaded when I got the source, but it does not have the specified file.

Is there an installer I need for WiX? I found a download with the "Wix.CA.targets" file, but copying that download to the expected path did not work (and I did not find a regular installer).

I have installed the Visual Studio 2008 SDK from the links in the build notes. I am using Visual Studio 2008 version 9.0.30729.1 SP, running on WindowsXP with the latest updates. The build notes I am using are at http://addonstudio.codeplex.com/Wiki/View.aspx?title=BuildNotes.

I too can't install Wowaddonstudio. I have tried all the previous suggestions.

OS= Vista Ultimate 64 bit
