Wanting to Start Creating Addons

Apr 24, 2009 at 7:24 PM
So I'm a bit new to this creating addons thing, the only language I ever programed with was Java, and that was only for a year of schooling, so I was wondering what language these are programed in?

I'm basically wanting to just create a couple simple addons, one is a XP Checker, compares Max EXP to Current, then calculates a percent value, how much exp till next level, how much exp/% per kill, Est. Kills till next lvl.

AddOns are built using the Lua scripting language. Wow includes a bunch of built-in Lua functions that you can use to get things like a unit's experience. The UI for AddOns is built using XML (specifically FrameXML).

Outside of that we can't do AddOn building support here (just don't have the resources). If you have a general question on building an addon, I'd suggest trying the UI and Macros forum -

or check out our learning resources (copy/pasted from home page)

What are some recommended resources for learning how to build Warcraft AddOns?
